WRITING PRACTICE PLAN
For this assignment you will create a document where you answer the following questions:
1. What approaches have you taken to writing with some regularity in the past? Which aspects of those approaches have not worked? Which aspects of those approaches have worked?
2. What are the two projects you want to workshop this semester and what state are they currently in?
3. How are you going to divide up your five hours of writing a week? If you miss one writing session, when are you going to make it up? You can, of course, write for more than five hours but make sure that you note in your plan that these are optional. For this section of your writing plan, please add an actual schedule.
4. What is your reward system? You want to have minor rewards for regular writing sessions and more substantial rewards for finishing projects. Know yourself as you choose your rewards and make sure it’s something you can actually afford. In my case, for example, I get a long walk in the forest after a week of good writing, I get to watch a movie after finishing a draft, and I drink champagne with my husband to celebrate significant publications.
5. Be aware that your plan may need revising as the semester unfolds. Be prepared to make changes to your schedule, reward systems, and projects as you become more aware of your needs as a writer. You will submit the revised version of the writing practice plan with your final portfolio.
