Your Writing Strategies Presentation
Writing, like any other craft, is the result of various personalized strategies that each writer cobbles together over their lifetime. Some of these strategies are present for every project they work on, some are tied to a project or two. Even though your writing strategies are individual practices, it is useful to learn from other’s approaches to their work. You can take inspiration from what they are doing and adapt it to your own projects and needs. Additionally, as you explain to others how you go about working on a project, you will develop a richer narrative around your own practices and learn about what does and doesn’t work for you and why. This level of introspection will help you continue to hone your writing practice. You will deliver a 10-minute Powerpoint/Google Slides/Prezi presentation where you:
1. Share some of your writing strategies for at least two of the three stages of writing— planning/research, writing, and revision. The planning/research stage involves anything you do before you start putting your words together on paper. This includes coming up with your original idea for the piece and discussing it with others, engaging with sources, outlining, and so on. The writing stage includes the actual putting down of words on the page that you think/hope will be part of the final draft. It also includes the revisions you do to your own writing before you show it to others. The revision stage includes the gathering of feedback from others and how you process and apply that feedback to reworking your piece.
2. You can discuss your process in general, but we also want to see examples from one piece you’ve worked on or are currently working on. You can share outlines, brainstorming doodles, and feedback you’ve received with us. Bring us into your writing process as you craft your narrative. You can also talk about how you work through the feelings you experience during feedback and as you work on applying that feedback to your revisions.
